SHAWANO, WI- The City of Shawano’s annual fall leaf collection is underway, and residents still have a few weeks left to take advantage of the service. City crews will continue curbside pickup through Friday, November 21.
Homeowners are reminded to place loose leaves at the curb on their regular garbage collection day. City officials note that crews may occasionally run behind schedule and appreciate residents’ patience as they work through the city. The usual six-bag limit for yard waste remains waived during the collection period.
After November 21, yard waste and leaves must be placed in paper, 30-gallon biodegradable bags or in containers marked with a “Shawano Yard Waste” sticker, available at City Hall. Plastic bags filled with leaves or yard waste will not be collected.
Residents are asked to help crews by raking leaves into long, narrow windrows close to the curb, not into the street or alley, and keeping piles clear of trees, mailboxes, and vehicles. City officials warn that raking leaves into the street violates ordinance and can clog storm sewers.
Branches and shrubs should be cut into four-foot bundles and placed at the curb for disposal. Grass, leaves, and garden waste can also be dropped off at the Shawano Landfill during business hours, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays through November 8 from 8 a.m. to noon.
