SHAWANO, WI – Concerns are growing at Shawano High School over the vacant Student Services Secretary position, which teachers say plays a vital role in supporting student well-being.
Teacher Michael McKinnies told the Shawano School Board that the elimination of the position poses serious concerns for the school’s ability to provide consistent and effective support to students and staff. He noted that former secretary Annette Grahl was a key connection point for students and families, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges.
“This person builds trust and welcomes students into a safe space, often at times when they are experiencing academic stress, personal struggles, or emotional challenges,” McKinnies said.
He urged the district to fill the position quickly to restore stability and maintain essential services for students. As of the latest school board meeting, district officials have not yet indicated when or if the position will be filled.
