SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – The Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department is teaming up with United Way of Shawano to ensure families continue to have access to food during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Health Director Nick Mau says while specific plans are still being finalized, the partnership’s focus is on supporting residents most impacted by disruptions to food assistance programs. Following an emergency food preparedness meeting last week, Mau noted that local food pantries are already seeing an increase in need.
“Pantries right now are all seeing an uptick in attendance, really even since the end of August,” Mau said, adding that the number of families seeking help is expected to keep rising. He emphasized that donations are urgently needed to help pantries meet growing demand and ensure no one in Shawano County goes without a meal.
