The Clintonville Police Department handled a mix of patrols and service calls Thursday.
Officers conducted several business checks overnight along Main, Seventh, and Ninth Streets, and extra patrols were made around Picnic Point, Pickerel Point Playground, and the 20th Street area.
A school patrol took place on West Green Tree Road during the morning hours. Later, officers responded to a report of an animal problem on 15th Street and a 911 call from North Clinton Avenue.
That night, police made a traffic stop at the intersection of West Madison and Bennett Streets and investigated a suspicious situation on Robert Street.
Extra patrols continued late into the evening around Memorial Circle as part of the department’s ongoing community safety efforts.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office logged more than 30 calls for service on Thursday.
Deputies were called to the county jail on North Main Street around one a.m. for a fight in progress. No injuries were reported and no ambulance was needed.
Several crashes involving deer were reported early in the morning — one on Highway 45 near Kildeer Lane in Birnamwood, and another on Highway 29 westbound near Nightingale Road in the town of Twigs. None of the drivers were seriously hurt.
Officers also handled a welfare check in Bonduel after a caller said they were concerned about a sick neighbor who wasn’t answering her phone. Deputies made contact and the situation was resolved.
In Wittenberg, human services requested a welfare check on a county client who hadn’t been heard from since early September. Deputies confirmed the woman was safe.
A man was taken into custody on a Forest County warrant Thursday afternoon, and another arrest on a separate warrant took place later that evening in Mattoon.
Other calls included a reported shoplifting at a Kwik Trip in Bonduel, a reckless-driving complaint on Curt Black Road, and a farmer in Shawano County asking for help after his tractor struck a power pole — deputies urged him to stay inside the cab until the utility company arrived.
The sheriff’s office also assisted with funeral escorts, traffic hazards, and several 911 and welfare checks throughout the day.
