NEW LONDON, WI – A New London High School student is hitting the target with his Eagle Scout project, building a new public archery range for the community.
Junior Colton Swanson presented his plan to the New London Parks and Recreation Committee, which gave unanimous approval for the project earlier this month. The range will be built at 740 River Road and include five shooting platforms with targets placed at varying distances to accommodate different skill levels.
Swanson plans to begin work this month and hopes to complete the project by September 2026, with help from local volunteers and community donors. The total cost is estimated at $6,500, covering materials, tools, and supplies.
City officials, including Mayor Mark Herter, have voiced their support, commending Swanson’s initiative and noting the project’s value to local hunters, families, and outdoor enthusiasts. Once complete, the range will provide a new space for recreation, training, and community connection in New London.
