SHAWANO, WI – Wisconsin’s tourism industry reached new heights in 2024, generating a record-breaking $25.8 billion in total economic impact, the highest in state history. According to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, communities across the state, including Shawano, Menominee, and Oconto counties, all contributed to the milestone year with steady growth in visitor spending and local economic activity.
In Shawano County, the tourism economy climbed 1.6% to $116 million, driven by summer recreation, outdoor festivals, and lake tourism. Oconto County also saw a 1.5% increase, reaching $142 million, while Menominee County recorded a 1.1% rise, surpassing $6 million in total impact. Officials say these gains reflect continued investment in local attractions, hospitality, and outdoor recreation opportunities that draw visitors to Northeast Wisconsin year-round.
Statewide, Wisconsin welcomed a record 114.4 million visitors, generating $1.7 billion in local and state tax revenue and supporting more than 182,000 tourism-related jobs.
Local tourism officials say the strong 2024 season sets the stage for continued growth heading into 2025, especially as more travelers seek out authentic small-town experiences across Shawano Country and the Northwoods.
