Shawano Police officers were kept busy Monday with a number of welfare checks, arrests, and assistance calls.
Police first responded to Wolf River Lutheran High School’s request for a welfare check on a student around ten o’clock that morning. Staff were concerned after hearing reports of an unstable home environment. Officers confirmed the student was safe.
A short time later, another welfare check was made on West Fourth Street after a caller reported not seeing a woman who was allegedly assaulted the week before. Officers made contact at the home and cleared the scene.
Later in the morning, a disturbance was reported on South Washington Street when a woman’s granddaughter began yelling and throwing objects inside the house. Officers helped calm the situation without injuries or arrests.
Around one o’clock, officers assisted in locating a wanted subject during a multi-agency warrant pickup near County Highway B and South Airport Drive. Several units were involved, and one person was taken into custody without incident.
Then, in the evening hours, Shawano officers assisted Clintonville Police after threats were made by a high school student who reportedly sent messages about “shooting up” the school. The suspect was identified and authorities are continuing their investigation.
The day ended with a call about a suspicious person on South Sawyer Street and several minor 911 hang-ups throughout the city.
Clintonville Police responded to a variety of calls throughout the day Monday, starting early with a report of suspicious activity on Modoc Street just after midnight. A few hours later, officers assisted paramedics at the same location for a medical call.
Around mid-morning, police investigated a harassment complaint on West Green Tree Road and handled a lost-and-found report near West Madison and Bennett Streets. Officers also provided two business escorts downtown on South Main Street and conducted extra patrols around local schools.
In the afternoon, officers assisted a citizen on North Main Street, responded to property damage on Flora Way, and checked a disabled vehicle at McKinley and Grant. Several traffic stops were made throughout the day, including along Highway 156 and South Main Street.
That evening, police investigated a threatening complaint on West Green Tree Road and assisted with multiple ambulance calls, including one on Wilson Street. The night closed with extra patrols around Memorial Circle and a 911 call on Industrial Avenue.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office handled a busy start to the week, responding to a variety of calls across the area on Monday.
Deputies were called out just after 3 a.m. for a security alarm at a business in Cecil, and a short time later to the Kwik Trip in Bonduel for a vehicle lockout. Around 5 a.m., a welfare check was conducted in Eland after a man was seen standing in the roadway — he told the caller he was “just smoking a cigarette.”
Later in the morning, officers investigated a residential alarm in Cecil, a report of credit card fraud in Bonduel, and a call of a low-flying helicopter near contractors working on a roof in Shawano.
In the afternoon, deputies responded to an animal complaint on County Road M, a traffic hazard on Highway 29 near Bonduel, and a welfare check in Birnamwood involving concerns for a man living in poor conditions.
Evening calls included several 911 hang-ups, assistance to Menominee and Green Bay police, and a report of an injured deer that could not be located. The day wrapped up with a car-versus-deer crash just before 11 p.m. on Highway 29 near Bowler.
