WEYAUWEGA, WI – Weyauwega is getting ready to celebrate its rich cheese-making heritage with this year’s Horse and Buggy Days, themed Cheese-O-Wega, on Saturday, October 11. The all-day event will feature everything from a 5K fun run to a cheese-themed parade, community contests, and live entertainment celebrating the city’s dairy traditions.
The festivities kick off with the first-ever Horse & Buggy Days 5K Silverback Stampede Fun Run and Walk, hosted by Silverback Strength in partnership with the Weyauwega Area Historical Society. Registration opens at 8 a.m. at Silverback Strength on East Main Street, with the race beginning at 9 a.m. Proceeds will support local history projects, and the run will conclude at Peterson Park with a silo mural rededication ceremony.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy cheese-themed foods, a cheesecake and pie social, and a cheese curd eating contest at City Hall. The celebration also includes a scavenger hunt, parade, children’s games, bingo, and an old-fashioned photo booth at the Gerold Opera House. The day wraps up with a bluegrass concert by Chicken Wire Empire at 6:30 p.m., bringing a lively close to a full day of community spirit and Weyauwega’s proud dairy heritage.
