WAUPACA, WI- A Catholic priest accused of attempting to meet a 14-year-old girl for sex has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges in Waupaca County.
Fr. Andrew Showers, 37, is charged with attempted sexual assault of a child, attempted child enticement, and attempted use of a computer to facilitate a sex crime. He was removed from ministry by the Diocese of Madison following his arrest in Clintonville on August 24.
Investigators say Clintonville police posed as a 14-year-old girl named “Abby” online. According to the criminal complaint, Showers allegedly sent explicit photos, described sexual acts, and arranged a meeting at a park, where officers arrested him. Police say he also reserved a hotel room in anticipation of the encounter.
