SHAWANO, WI – Shawano County officials are preparing to roll out an updated policy addressing employee leaves of absence. Human Resources Director Julie Hasser says the county is in a strong position with the proposal and has been carefully working through the final details.
“We are just working through all of the details,” Haster explained, noting that much of the discussion took place at the September Executive Committee meeting. “We have finalized a policy that will come before exec in October.”
The new plan builds on the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which has protected employees for more than 30 years, and updates those provisions to better reflect the county’s current needs. Haster emphasized that safeguards are an important part of the proposal. “Once you have a policy set, it sets the parameters so directors and managers have something to fall back on that sets particulars,” she said.
The finalized policy will soon head to the Board of Supervisors for review and potential approval. If adopted, it would modernize the county’s leave procedures and ensure consistency for employees and department leaders alike.
