SHAWANO, WI – With the school year underway and concerns about violence in focus across Wisconsin, Shawano police are drawing attention to a resource designed to keep students safe both inside and outside the classroom.
Officer Tyler Thornborrow says the Speak Up, Speak Out program provides students with a direct way to make a difference.
“We have a confidential 24/7 hotline that people can report concerns to,” Thornborrow explained. “It can be anything from bullying to school violence.”
Officer Brandi Hoffman says the tool not only makes reporting simple, but also gives students reassurance when they need it most.
“It’s just a really good way for us to be able to get more information out,” Hoffman said. “So many times kids are scared that something’s going to happen to them, that there’s repercussion from that person who they reported.”
The program is available as a mobile app on any device, allowing students to submit reports safely and anonymously. Officials say the tool helps schools respond quickly while giving students peace of mind.
