Health Officials Share Back-to-School Wellness Tips for Shawano County Families

SHAWANO COUNTY, WI – As summer winds down and families prepare for the new school year, health experts are reminding parents not to overlook an essential part of back-to-school planning: their child’s health.

Nick Mau, Health Director for Shawano-Menominee Counties, says it’s important to schedule checkups and screenings to catch any potential issues early. “Just make sure you’re looking with your health care provider, vision, hearing, and dental, just to check anything and screen for any issues,” Mau advised. He also encourages parents to review any school-related medications and ensure plans are in place to manage them.

Another key tip for a successful start to the school day: don’t skip breakfast. “It really helps jumpstart our metabolism for the day, and it allows your body to start burning calories,” Mau said. A healthy breakfast also fuels brain function, helping boost students’ focus, energy, and classroom performance.

For a complete back-to-school health checklist, families can visit the Shawano-Menominee County Health Department Facebook page.
