SHAWANO, WI – Children across Shawano are getting free access to nutritious meals this summer thanks to a partnership between the Shawano School District, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Taher, the district’s food service vendor.
The program, open to all children under the age of 18 regardless of income or enrollment status, is providing free breakfast and lunch every Monday through Friday through July 3 at Hillcrest Primary School, Shawano Middle School, and Shawano Community High School.
“This is really about meeting the needs of our community and making sure no child goes hungry during the summer months,” said Kurt Krizan, superintendent of the Shawano School District.
Breakfast is served from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m., and lunch is available from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at all three locations. Children can simply walk in and receive a meal, no registration is required.
The summer meal program is part of a broader national effort to address child hunger when school is out of session. For some students, school meals provide their most reliable source of nutrition.
