SHAWANO, WI- After more than 72 years at its current location, Shawano’s VFW is planning to relocate Herbert E. McLaughlin Post 2723 to a new site.
On December 9, members gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony at the newly purchased site at the southeast corner of South Olson Street and East Richmond Street.
The projected budget for the new clubhouse is $1 million, which will cover site preparation, utilities, the building’s foundation, furnishings, a storage facility, and a paved parking lot. The goal is to complete construction by Veterans Day 2025.
A committee formed in August is leading the fundraising effort, with plans for several events in 2025 to raise awareness and funds. They will also apply for grants to support the project.
Tax-deductible contributions can be made payable to “Shawano Veterans Foundation Inc.” and designated for the New Building Fund. Donations can be mailed to 610 W. Green Bay St., Shawano, WI 54166.
