SHAWANO, WI – It took some adjusting and promoting, but the Shawano School District got the support that they need from the community to make improvements to the schools.
“Having the extra voices from community members and business owners really helped,” said School Board President Mike Musolff.
The voting community passed the school referendum vote with a 59% majority.
“There are a lot of areas that we are looking at. This is going to help us a lot in many different areas.”
The referendum will allow for High Priority Maintenance at Hillcrest, Olga Brener and the High School. It will also allow for improvement of usability and accessibility of the playground at Hillcrest and allow for interior recess space.
At Olga Brener, work will be done to improve lighting to LED for energy efficiency as well as some remodel work being done.
The Middle School will be able to undergo some critical roof repairs and there are big plans at the High School, including, updating classrooms, work on the parking lot and driveway, move the District Office to Olga Brener and move, repair and update the athletic fields.
“This is about 20 million less than what it was projected to be during the first try.”
The vote total was 5,538 to 3739.
“It’s time that we look at getting are buildings up to snuff and putting together a plan for the future so that this does not happen again,” said Musolff.
