MOUNTAIN, WI- Crews successfully contained a wildfire that erupted on Tuesday afternoon, October 8, in Oconto County, burning roughly 26 acres of forested land.
Dubbed the “Bear Paw” fire, the blaze started around 2 p.m. in a remote area near Lower Dam Road, close to Mountain. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and local fire departments collaborated to control the fire.
Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials suspect lightning may have sparked the blaze. Fortunately, the fire was in a remote part of the national forest, meaning no structures or people were endangered.
The DNR had issued warnings about high fire danger statewide earlier this week.
