Manawa, WI – In response to recent events, the City of Manawa is offering free dumpster services for residents behind the high school starting today, July 8, 2024, at noon. The dumpsters will be open on July 8 and July 9 from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Additional dates and times will be announced as they are determined.
Important Information:
- Prohibited Items: Electronics, appliances, yard waste, tires, and hazardous materials are not allowed in the dumpsters.
- Proof of Residency: Residents must show proof of residency to use the dumpsters.
Volunteers Needed: The city is looking for volunteers to oversee the dumpsters. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help transport items to the dumpsters for those unable to do so themselves. Interested individuals can contact City Hall at 920-596-2577.
Brush Pickup: A brush pickup date has been added for Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Residents should ensure no pieces are larger than 6 feet and place the brush parallel to the curb.
Funding and Assistance:
- FEMA Funding: The city will not qualify for FEMA funding, so residents should work with their home insurance companies.
- Wisconsin Disaster Relief Fund: The city is applying for funding from this fund, but private residences do not qualify.
Ongoing Updates:
- County Highway B Bridge: The State Engineer will inspect the bridge today to determine a reopening date.
- Lindsay Park: Residents are reminded to avoid walking through Lindsay Park and to stay clear of blocked-off areas for safety reasons.
- Dam Status: The city is scheduled to meet with the DNR to discuss the future status of the dam.
Cleaning Kits: Free cleaning kits are available at Manawa City Hall, Sturm Memorial Library, and Manawa High School. However, as of 4:30 PM on July 8, 2024, the kits are out of stock. More will be delivered by the Red Cross tomorrow. Updates will be provided when they arrive.

Library Access: While the library parking lot is closed, the back entrance is open, and curbside pickup is available.
Weight Restriction: A 6-ton weight restriction has been placed on Beech Street.
U-Haul Assistance: U-Haul in Waupaca is offering one month of free indoor or outdoor storage for those affected by the disaster. Reservations can be made online or by calling 715-802-2765.
