SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Hockey League’s agreement for the use of the Crawford Center remains unresolved as discussions regarding a lease were tabled during the recent Shawano County Public Property Committee meeting on May 2nd.
Rather than immediately considering a lease, committee members opted to meet first with a potential buyer interested in the property, situated within the county fairgrounds.
The league has been advocating for a five-year lease, a term consistent with past agreements, except for the recent 2023-24 contract which spanned only one year.
Steve Dreher, the Shawano County building maintenance department manager, suggested that considering the possibility of the building’s sale, a shorter one-year lease might be prudent.
Dreher mentioned a gentleman, previously discussed, who expressed interest in purchasing the facility to convert it into a year-round venue for youth activities. This prospective buyer, a local Shawano resident and business owner, intends to make improvements to the facility, including the addition of a large kitchen area.
Shawano County Board Chairman Tom Kautza proposed a closed session meeting with the prospective buyer to gather more information before discussing a new lease with the hockey league.
