SHAWANO, WI- In response to feedback gathered from Community Listening sessions, the Shawano School District is redoubling its efforts to foster stronger connections with parents and community members. Under the theme of “Get Connected ~ Stay Connected,” the district is rolling out various initiatives to ensure that stakeholders are well-informed about the latest developments in classrooms, schools, and the district as a whole.
Here are some key avenues through which parents and community members can stay abreast of important updates and events:
1. Shawano Schools Website (www.shawanoschools.org): Serving as a centralized hub for pertinent information, the district’s website offers a wealth of resources, including important dates, district and school news, and links to valuable resources. Regularly visiting the website is encouraged to stay informed.
2. Social Media Presence: The Shawano School District maintains active profiles on Facebook and Instagram, where followers can access information, view pictures, and receive announcements. To connect with the district on social media, visit Facebook and Instagram.
3. Community Newsletter: Mailed three times a year to all district residents and open enrollment families, the Shawano School District Community Newsletter showcases the latest student, school, and district accomplishments, providing a comprehensive overview for the entire Shawano community.
4. Direct Communication via Email: Classroom teachers regularly update parents on specific classroom activities, such as field trips and special events, via email. Additionally, administrators utilize email to communicate timely and specific information directly with parents.
5. Skyward Student/Parent Portal: The Skyward Portal offers students and parents access to grades, assignments, and select communications from teachers. It also serves as the source for regular and emergency parent contact information, making it essential for parents to verify their contact details periodically.
6. Skylert Messenger System: This text/email/phone calling system is activated in critical situations affecting students and families, such as weather-related delays or emergencies. Families are encouraged to ensure their contact information is up to date in Skyward to receive these notifications promptly.
7. Wednesday Folder Emails: Sent weekly, these emails provide parents with information about upcoming all-school functions and important news for the week ahead.
8. Superintendent Chats: Superintendent Kurt Krizan hosts open conversation sessions where community members can provide feedback, ask questions, and engage in dialogue. Scheduled dates for these sessions are provided for the convenience of participants.
By leveraging these communication channels, the Shawano School District aims to foster a collaborative environment where parents, educators, and community members are actively engaged in supporting student success and enhancing the overall educational experience.
