SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano Common Council convened on April 16 for its organizational meeting, where new and returning members were sworn into office. Joining Mayor Bruce Milavitz were returning aldermen Jim Hauer and John Hoeffs, along with newcomer Jack Young, who took their oaths to serve the community.
During the meeting, District 3 Alderman Kevin Barkow was unanimously elected as council president, assuming a leadership role within the council.
Furthermore, the council authorized City Clerk Lesley Nemetz and City Administrator Eddie Sheppard to explore and propose changes to ordinances and policies. Specifically, they will investigate adjustments that would evenly distribute council members across committees, with each alderperson serving on four committees. Currently, there is a discrepancy in committee assignments, with some alderpersons serving on three committees while others serve on four.
