SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano County Highway Department, in collaboration with the City of Shawano, is set to commence reconstruction work on a portion of CTH HHH (Airport Dr.), stretching from Green Bay Street to Gumaer Road. The project is slated to begin on April 17, 2024, and is expected to conclude by May 24, 2024.
“This will be the final segments,” Bystol said.
This extensive undertaking aims to enhance the infrastructure along this vital transportation artery. The reconstruction will take place within the existing road Right-of-Way, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding properties and businesses.
To facilitate the construction process, the project will be executed in segments, with specific timelines allocated for each phase. The initial phase, scheduled from April 17 to April 19, will involve the pulverization of the existing roadway under flagging operations while maintaining open roadway conditions. However, on April 22, 2024, the roadway will be closed to through traffic, marking the commencement of Segment 1.
Subsequent segments will follow a similar pattern, with specific dates earmarked for closure and reopening to traffic. Residents and businesses in the vicinity will still have access to the affected area throughout the project duration, albeit from either the north or south side, depending on the construction progress.
“We are going to work from the North to the South,” Bystol said. “For the most part, businesses will be able to be accessed from the South side during the early parts of the construction. One exception would probably be The Lighthouse, that will have to be accessed from the North side as it is the North project limit line.”
Segment 2, slated from April 22 to April 26, will focus on the stretch from Gumaer Road to the northern entrance of Launching Pad. This will be followed by work from the northern entrance of Launching Pad to Estates Ln., scheduled for April 29 to May 3 (Segment 3). The final segment, encompassing the area from Estates Ln. to Green Bay St., is projected to take place from May 6 to May 10 (Segment 4).
The concluding phase of the project, Segment 4, will involve grading, prepping, and paving the entire stretch of the roadway, aiming for completion by May 24, 2024. However, it’s important to note that these timelines are subject to change due to various factors such as progress, weather conditions, and unforeseen delays.
During the construction period, a signed detour will be in place, guiding motorists through alternative routes via Green Bay St., STH 47, and CTH H. The detour map will be provided to assist commuters in navigating around the construction site.
“Use caution when accessing businesses and driving in the work zone.”
The Shawano County Highway Department emphasizes its commitment to minimizing inconvenience to the public while ensuring the timely and successful completion of this significant infrastructure project.
Bystol said the project had to be done in segments because the county does not borrow money for road construction.
