SHAWANO, WI- In response to widespread power outages affecting numerous areas throughout Shawano County, a shelter has been established at Shawano Middle School to accommodate residents in need of warmth and overnight accommodation.
Due to the extensive power disruptions across the county, particularly in the City of Shawano and surrounding areas, the decision was made to open a centralized shelter at Shawano Middle School.
The shelter, made possible through the collaboration of the Red Cross and the Shawano School District, opened its doors at approximately 7:00 pm Wednesday night. Red Cross was present to assist individuals requiring overnight accommodations. Showers was also available for use; however, attendees are kindly requested to bring their own towels and toiletries.
As of 10:00 pm, there have been no overnight sheltering needs reported. Nevertheless, the Red Cross team remains on standby to provide assistance to those requiring support. The decision has been made to close the shelter for the night, with alternative sheltering options available at the FACE Center in Keshena for individuals still in need.
The cooperation of the Shawano School District and the Red Cross in facilitating this shelter is greatly appreciated. It is hoped that power will be restored to affected areas by the end of tomorrow. For individuals still in need of support or resources, reassessment will be conducted Thursday.
