SHAWANO, WI- As Shawano County grapples with the multifaceted challenge of child care choices, a pivotal event is on the horizon. The Shawano Country Progress Summit, set to unfold on March 20 at the Crescent Ballroom within Stubborn Brothers Brewery in downtown Shawano, aims to tackle the complex web of dilemmas faced by parents.
Presented in collaboration by the Shawano School District, Shawano County Economic Progress Inc., Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College-Shawano, and saYPro, the summit isn’t just a discussion; it’s a collective effort to unravel the intricacies of child care decision-making.
The Wisconsin Department of Children and Families’ licensed child care directory paints a vivid picture, listing 13 centers in Shawano County as of March 5. From licensed family child care centers in Gresham, Wittenberg, and Shawano to group centers in Bonduel, Bowler, Birnamwood, Wittenberg, and Shawano, the county offers a diverse landscape of child care options. Public school programs, including those in Bowler and Tigerton, add further layers to the choices.
Amidst these considerations, the Summit promises to be a beacon of insight. Distinguished speakers, including Bec Kurzynske, M3 Director of Employee Benefits; Kurt Krizan, Superintendent of Shawano School District; Wendy Crawford, Boys and Girls Club of Shawano board member; and Sam Sperberg, saYPro President, will share local data and perspectives. Their presentations will draw from surveys conducted by the Shawano School District and the Shawano Area Young Professionals (saYPro).
For those seeking both intellectual stimulation and practical solutions, the Summit offers a platform for discourse. The registration, priced at $25 for Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce members and $30 for non-members, includes not just access to the event but also a culinary treat—heavy appetizers and two beverage tickets.
The evening unfolds with registration at 4:30 p.m., followed by a dynamic presentation from 5-7 p.m. The subsequent networking session from 7-8 p.m. provides attendees with the opportunity to connect and collaborate.
Generous sponsors, including AbbyBank, Menominee Casino Resort, North Star Mohican Casino Resort, and ThedaCare, have rallied behind the Summit, emphasizing the community’s collective commitment to addressing the pressing issue of child care in Shawano County.
