TOWN OF LIND, WI- A proposed waste digester project in the small town of Lind in central Wisconsin continues to stir controversy among residents, with the latest developments sparking heated discussions during a packed meeting at Waupaca High School on Wednesday.
The proposed project, aiming to convert food waste and manure into renewable energy, is a collaboration between Brooks Farm and Vanguard Renewables. The plan met strong opposition from hundreds of residents and members of surrounding communities who gathered to voice their concerns during the meeting.
The focus of Wednesday’s board agenda was on proposed amendments to the town’s zoning code and comprehensive plan, intending to reclassify 7.8 acres of agricultural land as industrial. The town board, responding to the overwhelming sentiments of the community, voted to recommend the denial of both proposed changes.
The meeting also saw a four-hour public forum, reflecting the intensity of the community’s engagement in the matter. The decision now moves to the Waupaca County Board, where a final verdict on the proposed waste digester project will be determined. The community remains on edge as they await the resolution of this divisive issue that has pitted progress and sustainability against the preservation of local values.
