OSHKOSH, WI- Shawano graduate Michael Metcalf-Grassman had a strong first season at UW-Oshkosh. The mark he made was strong enough to earn him first team all-conference.
Metcalf-Grassman is one of five first year players to be all league since the 2000 season.
“It is a very rare and he put together a great season,” said UW-Oshkosh Head Coach Matt Lewis.
“We honestly underestimated the impact that he was going to have as a Freshman,” Lewis said. “He just kept getting better and better and his production kept increasing.”
Lewis said he followed Metcalf-Grassman closely as a high school player and at the All-Star game over the summer at Wisconsin Dells.
“We are excited to have him for the future.”
Lewis said he has some serious potential throughout his college career.
“He is motivated and competitive,” Lewis said. “He has a great basketball mind and invests in his game.”
Metcalf-Grassman finished his Freshman year with 17 starts in 25 games. He averaged 12 points a game, shooting 53 percent from the field and finished with 309 points.
“When you talked to him about something after the game, the next game, you saw him apply that to his game.”
Metcalf-Grassman was also named Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year in the WIAC.
