Judith A. “Judi” Bartels, age 75, formerly of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 28, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Judi was born January 17, 1949, in Shawano, a daughter of the late Arleigh and Elnora (Carlson) Roloff. She attended St. James Grade School followed by Shawano High School where she graduated with the Class of 1967. After high school Judi attended beauty school in Green Bay, then became a hairdresser at Spurgeon’s Department Store in Shawano. On January 16, 1971, Judi was united in marriage to Thomas J. Bartels at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. She continued working at Spurgeon’s until her first daughter, Lisa, was born. Judi then stayed home to care for her family. Judi was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano where she was active with the Emmaus Group and was the secretary at Sacred Heart Catholic School. She then worked for the Shawano School District as a computer aide at both the middle school and the high school. Judi’s family was incredibly important to her, and she strived to create family traditions for her family to continue. Judi attended her grandchildren’s activities as much as possible. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, cooking, baking, and canning. Her husband preceded her in death on August 4, 2015.
Survivors include her loving daughters, Lisa (fiancé Joe Hurst) Andreas of DePere, and Danielle (Nat) Hoeper of Oshkosh; her grandchildren, Carson and Ava Andreas, Cadence, Benjamin, and Brooke Hoeper, and Indiah and Kade Hurst; her brother, Jeff (Mary) Roloff of Shawano; her brother-in-law, Larry Bartels of Reedsburg; her sister-in-law, Lynn Bartels of Reedsburg; her uncle, Jim Carlson of Shawano; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Jim Bartels, and her sister-in-law, Joan Bartels.
A Memorial Mass for Judi will be celebrated on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Fr. Edward Looney will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am at the church and continue until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family prefers memorials in Judi’s name to the Shawano Community Schools Fine Arts or the Shawano County Humane Society.
