Ivan J. Young, age 91 of Shawano, passed away peacefully Monday, January 22, 2024, in Shawano. Ivan was born April 25, 1932, in Maple Creek, Wisconsin, a son of the late Louis and Anna (Sujinski) Young. He attended school in Bear Creek, graduating from Bear Creek High School with the Class of 1950. Following high school, Ivan farmed until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in September of 1952. He served his country until March of 1960 when he was honorably discharged. When Ivan returned from service, he worked at Hillshire in New London. On June 23, 1962, Ivan was united in marriage to the former Theresa Heidemann at Holy Name Catholic Church in Kimberly. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Clintonville where Ivan worked for FWD for 30 years before retiring. The couple then moved to Oconto and later settled in Shawano. Mrs. Young
preceded him in death on February 5, 2018. Ivan is a good and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. His hobbies included gardening, playing cards, doing various puzzles, and he LOVED playing bingo. In his younger years, Ivan enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his children, Damian Young of Waupaca, Gemma (Joe) Niemuth of Tavares, FL, Ignatius Young of Elton, WI, Imelda (Matthew) Mueller of Orlando, FL, and Jeremy Young of Oshkosh; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers and eight sisters.
A Funeral Mass for Ivan will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano. Fr. Edward Looney will be the Celebrant. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Shawano. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:30 am and continue until the time of Mass. Shawano AmVets Post #10 will conduct full military honors at the mausoleum. A memorial fund will be established in Ivan’s name.
