James Robert “Jim” Kaquatosh, age 79, of Keshena, began his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, December 31, 2023, in Shawano. Jim was born May 29, 1944, in Keshena, a son of the late John Mose and Elmira (Moon) Kaquatosh. Jim attended St. Anthony Catholic Grade School and later attended Antigo High School for two years. He then spent his junior and senior year at Shawano, graduating from Shawano High School with the Class of 1962. Jim ran cross country and track, setting numerous records. Jim was inducted into the Shawano High School Hall of Fame and later the Menominee Hall of Fame for his achievements in running and boxing. In his younger years Jim enjoyed hunting, shooting pool, playing basketball, baseball, and softball. Following high school, he was drafted into the United States Army serving for two years during the Vietnam Era. Upon returning from service, he was employed at Menominee Tribal Enterprises. Jim spent most of his career in the lumber industry. On July 19, 1969, Jim was united in marriage to Kathleen Dodge at St. Michael’s Catholic
Church in Keshena. Following their marriage, the couple lived briefly in Appleton but returned to Keshena. Jim retired from Menominee Tribal Enterprises as the Director of Sales. He is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs fan. Jim was very personable and never forgot a name or face. “Jim Kaq” will be remembered for his humorous nature, jokes, athletic achievements, and even his tube socks.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathleen of Keshena; two children, Renee (Greg) Kaquatosh of Shawano, and Gerald Mose Kaquatosh of Keshena; four grandchildren, Brittany Kaquatosh, David “Buddha” Washington, Lance Washington, and Tanisha Washington; eight great-grandchildren, Swede Corn, Brett Reiter, Brycen Reiter, Elias Reiter, Olivia Webster, Jakob Webster, Kēsoq Kaquatosh, and Gabriel; two brothers, Leslie “Kak” (Shelby) Kaquatosh of Keshena, and Melvin “Nibbs” Kaquatosh of Neopit; three sisters, Elizabeth “Bun” (LeRoy) Shawanokasic of Keshena, Donna “Detes” (Paul) Dutkiewicz of Neenah, and Carol Jean Kaquatosh of Keshena. Jim is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by one daughter, Joleen Kaquatosh; one grandson, Kinsey Washington; his sister, Mary Kaquatosh; and three brothers, Roland, Donald “Duck” and Gerald “Jabbo” Kaquatosh.
A Funeral Mass for James Kaquatosh will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. Father Hanz Christian will be the Celebrant. Visitation will begin Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the Father Dave Barrett Hall at St. Michael’s and continue until 10:45 am Wednesday. A Parish Wake Service will be conducted on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. The Veterans of the Menominee Nation will perform full Military Honors at the Church.
