SHAWANO, WI- The quest for justice in a sexual assault case involving Pedro Noriega-Avila continues to face delays as the defendant awaits legal representation through the public defender’s office.
During a status conference on December 21, it was revealed that Noriega-Avila remains without counsel after his previous attorney withdrew from the case. Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court Judge William Kussel Jr. received a report from the public defender’s office indicating the unavailability of attorneys to take on the case.
The shortage of attorneys in Wisconsin courts, a persistent issue, poses a particular challenge in Noriega-Avila’s case.
A status conference is set for 3 p.m. on February 14 in Branch II of the Shawano County Courthouse, adding to the prolonged legal uncertainty in this challenging case.
