SHAWANO, WI- A proposed initiative by the Shawano County Highway Department to address urgent leaks and mold issues at the Shawano County Library has been put on hold as officials gather quotes from private firms. The pause in action aims to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of potential solutions.
The recommendation from the Public Property Committee prompted the Highway Department to focus initially on the Veslak Room, identified as the epicenter of the problem. Milt Marquardt, Board President, explained that the plan involves removing the interior, including drywall, paneling, and insulation. The proposed solution entails injecting cracks with waterproofing Eurothane to seal them from the inside. The estimated cost for this targeted work is $11,500.
The Library Board and Public Property Committee plan to convene for a joint meeting in January to review the gathered quotes and deliberate on both short-term repairs and the long-term utilization of the library building. The proposed meeting dates are January 10 or January 11, signaling a collaborative effort to chart the course for the library’s future.
