BOWLER, WI- On the afternoon of December 2, a fire in Bowler resulted in one person sustaining injuries and the complete destruction of a residence. According to Bowler Area Fire District Fire Chief Dan Ladwig, the homeowner was transported to a hospital, but he lacked additional details regarding the nature of the treatment.
Firefighters were confronted with a fully-engulfed blaze at the West Rollman Street home shortly before noon.
Collaborating with the Bowler Area Fire District were teams from the Mattoon and Stockbridge-Munsee fire departments. The firefighting efforts persisted until approximately 4:15, and on the same day, the house was bulldozed. However, a subsequent flare-up prompted a return to the scene before 8 a.m. on Sunday.
While an official cause remains undetermined, Chief Ladwig mentioned information from a Shawano County sheriff’s deputy, suggesting that the homeowner might have fallen asleep on the couch, and the fire could have potentially originated from a burning cigarette.
