WITTENBERG, WI- The Wittenberg Village Board is encountering obstacles related to a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) aimed at constructing new sidewalks. In a recent meeting, members learned that they may need to hire a real estate consultant and negotiator to facilitate the acquisition of necessary right-of-way from property owners.
In 2022, the village secured a grant from the Wisconsin DOT’s Alternative Transportation Program to cover 80% of the estimated $920,000 cost of installing seven new sidewalks. However, to move forward with the project, the village must obtain eight temporary limited easements.
Of note, the new sidewalk segments planned for the village include North Genesee Street, East Grand Avenue, South Webb Street, East Vinal Street, Pond Park, South Ellms Street, and West Reed Street. These enhancements aim to promote pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and transportation in the community.
