SEYMOUR, WI- As winter approaches, the Seymour Department of Public Works is reminding residents to inspect their mailboxes for signs of rot, leaning, or poor condition. Neglected mailboxes can obstruct snowplowing operations, leading to potential inconvenience and safety hazards.
Residents replacing or installing new mailboxes should follow specific guidelines. In areas with curbs, mailboxes should not extend past the back of the curb and should be 42 inches from the top of the curb to the bottom of the mailbox. In areas without curbs, maintain a height of 48 inches from the top of the ground to the bottom of the mailbox.
Taking these steps ensures efficient snow removal and contributes to community safety. Properly positioned and maintained mailboxes help prevent obstructions and aid snowplow operations.
