SHAWANO, WI- The 45th Shawano Folk Music Festival starts Friday in Shawano. The event takes place for three days at Mielke Park in Shawano. “It’s a very diverse lineup of performers,” says Joel Kroenke of the Music Festival. Kroenke says some of the performers have been there in years past. The festival includes multiple stages by the theater.
Friday and Saturday evening concerts begin at 7:00pm. Some of the performers will be doing some meet and greets before the concerts start on Friday night.
In 1979, the Old Time Music and Crafts Festival (OTMCF) began as a small event with a few musicians. The stage was the back of a wagon.
45 years later, the weekend Festival is still going strong. The festival includes a mix of musicians to town, including some of the finest in the country. Traditional folk, contemporary Americana, blues, jazz, bluegrass, country, world music, classical, pop – they all have a place at the Shawano Folk Music Festival.
The event is still run entirely by a committee of volunteers. This committee selects musicians each year, which partly explains the eclectic nature of the music.
Organizers say there will be arts and crafts vendors, and food and beverages will be available.
