STURGEON BAY, WI- For the first time in 41 years, the next Alice in Dairyland will be crowned in Door County. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection announced the 2024 Alice in Dairyland Finals will be held from May 2 to 4 in Door County, with the 77th Alice named in a May 4 event at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay. The contest is held in a different Wisconsin county each year; this is the first time the Peninsula will host the finals since 1983. The program to find an official ambassador for the state’s agriculture industry started in 1948 as something like a beauty pageant, with 16 finalists chosen solely from photos of them. It since has evolved into essentially a public job interview for marketing and public relations professionals who vie to win a full-time, one-year contract with DATCP. The reigning Alice usually travels more than 30,000 miles across the state. The interview process for Alice contestants includes a two-day briefing event several weeks before the three-day finals, with press conferences, agribusiness tours and speeches as part of the process. Some finals events are open to the public and include opportunities to showcase the host county’s local businesses and products.
