SHAWANO, WI- High speed low altitude flying aircrafts will be passing over Shawano on Sunday morning. The event is the 25th AirVenture Cup Race. A group of pilots will start out in Wausau and loop around Wisconsin, through Michigan and end up back in Wausau. “There will actually be people on the field to judge these airplanes,” said Shawano Mayor Bruce Milavitz. He said the first group of planes will be the fastest.
He says the first planes will be coming through around 9:10am over Shawano Airport. “Gates open at 8:30am and everyone is welcome.” Milavitz says people should bring their lawn chairs to enjoy the show.
The planes will be coming as low as 500 feet from the ground, so it will be a chance to see the planes up close.
“A lot of these planes are experimental planes, so the many of the pilots that are flying these planes also built their plane.”
