SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano School Board got a first look at preliminary numbers for the next two school years during Monday’s board meeting.
Superintendent Kurt Krizan explained that the district is projecting a declining enrollment of .6 percent for the 2023-2024 school year and a decrease by 1.5 percent for the 2024-2025 school year.
Along with those numbers, the district is projecting a budget deficit of $45,456 dollars for the next school year. Krizan says there are many factors that still need to be played out, including the per pupil aid dollars in the next State budget. “We have not seen an increase of per pupil aid in the last two years, but this year, the Governor is recommending it,” Krizan told the board. “That will play a big factor in the final budget numbers.”
The future is showing a $3.4 million dollar shortfall in the 2024-2025 school year at this time.
Currently, the district is working with Hoffman Planning, Design, & Construction, Inc. of Appleton on a possible future operational or capital referendum.
