SHAWANO, WI- Shawano needed a little time to shake the rust off, but now have moved into midseason form with three straight wins over the weekend.
The Hawks defeated the Seymour Thunder Friday night 8-6. Shawano was down 4-2 going into the top of 6th inning when they loaded the bases. Ashton Henning hit a grand slam home run to put the Hawks up 7-4. Shawano added one more run in the 7th to make it 8-4. Seymour would battle back in the bottom of the 7th and score 2 runs, Seymour had the bases loaded before Shawano got the final out and ended the game. Michael Metcalf-Grassman picked up the win in relief of Tom Keszo. Metcalf-Grassman pitched the last two innings giving up 2 hits and had five strikeouts. Tom Keszo pitched the first 5 innings giving up 8 hits and struck out 4. Shawano was lead at the plate by Ashton Henning going 3-5 with a double, home run, and 5 RBI’s. Brady Hannes was also 3-4 on the day. The Hawks had 16 hits on the day.
Saturday morning the Hawks traveled to Xavier for a double header. Shawano was down 2-1 going into the 5th inning when the they took advantage of some costly Xavier errors and scored 3 runs to take the lead 4-2. Xavier would answer back with a run in the bottom of the 5th but that would be it. Shawano would hold on to win 4-3. Bryce Popp picked up the win pitching 4 innings giving up 5 hits, 3 runs and had 7 k’s. Henning got the save pitching 3 innings giving up 1 hit and had 3 k’s. Crew Weisnicht had a double for the Hawks.
In the second game, the bats came alive for Shawano, the Hawks pounded out 13 hits and went on to beat Xavier 10-4. Shawano would score 5 runs in the 2nd inning, 3 more in the 6th, and added 2 more in the 7th inning. The Hawks were lead by Ashton Henning who was 2-4 with 2 triples, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Bryce Popp, Michael Metcalf, and Jerzy Brocker all had 2 hits for Shawano. Pete Bruette got the win in relief, pitching the last 5 innings giving up 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, and had 1 strikeout.
