SHIOCTON, WI- After a busy start to the sturgeon spawning season, the Wisconsin DNR says it is on hold right now.
“Cold water temperatures have continued to pause spawning on the Wolf River. No sturgeon have been seen at the De Pere Dam or on the Peshtigo River yet. Spawning may resume later in the week at some locations.”
The DNR continues to update their website on the latest spawning conditions.
The weather the last couple of days has not been good for sturgeon spawning. Incoming warmer temperatures may help get the spawn underway again.
Northeast Wisconsin has three locations to view the spawn.
Shawano Dam in Shawano – Parking is available on the east side of the river at the end of Richmond Street.
Bamboo Bend at Shiocton – on County Highway 54. Parking is available on the north side of County Hwy. 54.
Wolf River Sturgeon Trail (near New London) – about 2 miles west of New London on County Highway X. Parking is available on the south side of the river about 1/2 mile from the spawning site
