SHAWANO, WI-
The Shawano Hawks enter the game holding on to slim hopes of being able to shake up the Bay Conference standings in the final week of the regular season next week. Shawano is 15-5 on the season overall and 7-4 in conference. The Hawks are just over two games back of Conference leading Xavier after recently falling to the front runners at home. They are just over a game back of West De Pere for second place. The Hawks went 1-1 in their last week with a loss at home to Xavier and a win on the road at New London. They have won 4 of their last 5 and 7 of their last 10. They are led by Senior Michael Metcalf-Grassman who is scoring 20.4 points a game and leads the conference. Brandon Reed (11.1), Jacob Landon (10.8) and Logan Sipple (10.6) are all averaging double digit scoring this season.
Wins have been hard to come by for the Red Devils as they had to replace a very talented Senior class from last year. They are 3-18 overall and 1-10 in conference. Their only conference win was against Green Bay West a couple of weeks ago, but then also lost to West in the rematch on Monday. Other wins include Antigo (44-41) and Two Rivers (42-40). The Devils have not lost a game by less than 10 points this season. They are led on the season by Tyler Boeder with 9.7 points a game and Paris Anderson with 7.5 points a game. Marcus Hall is scoring 6.4, D.J Broadnax is scoring 5.1 and Shakur Habane is scoring 4.5.
The Shawano Hawks got back on the winning track with a 63-54 win at New London on Tuesday of last week. Shawano led 34-30 at the break and used a strong second half to top the Bulldogs. New London’s inside game was impacted after Ian Oberstadt picked up two early first half fouls and two early second half fouls, giving him extremely limited playing time. The Hawks made up for it by hitting 26 of 39 shots from inside. New London was frigid from outside making 5 of 30 three point attempts. Logan Sipple and Mecalf-Grassman both scored 19. Kyle Wisnewski led New London with 20.
The Red Devils lost the second time around against Green Bay West 48-34 on Monday. West took the early lead and led 26-16 at the break.
In the first meeting this year, Shawano jumped out early and led East 34-8 at the half. The Hawks only hit 3 three pointers and did the rest of the work inside. Michael Metcalf-Grassman scored 23, Logan Sipple added 15 and Brandon Reed chipped in 12. Tyler Boeder led the Devils with 16 points and Shakur Habane added 10.
The teams have met 14 times since the 2015-2016 season and both teams have won 7 games.
