SHAWANO, WI- Shawano Middle School was put on a secure hold at 8:15 Thursday morning due to a communicated threat of a weapon at school.
Shawano Police told TCH Daily News that more than one source reported the threat, and law enforcement responded. The Shawano Police Department quickly determined that there was no danger to students or staff and did not locate a weapon. The secure hold was lifted within an hour. Teaching and learning was not impacted during the secure hold.
Shawano Middle School Principal William Traber said he was informed by a concerned student.
Shawano School Superintendent says that they will continue to be vigilant about providing a safe environment and that they will debrief as an administrative team to make sure that they acted effectively as they continue to put staff and student safety as a top concern.
Their have been other weapon threats at other schools in Northeast Wisconsin this week.
-An eighth grade student brought a gun to Webster Stanley middle school in Oshkosh on Monday.
– On Tuesday, a gun and ammunition were found in a student’s backpack at Neenah High School.
-A UW-Green Bay student was arrested after a gun was found on campus Tuesday night.
