CLINTONVILLE, WI- The Goodfellows of Clintonville held their annual Christmas present giving event on Wednesday December 14th and Thursday December 15th. Open to residents that live in both the Clintonville and Marion School Districts, this annual event provides presents, coats, hats & mittens, bedding and more to families in need.
“They get food vouchers, blankets, pillows, winter coats, toys, hat, gloves, boots and hygiene products,” said Goodfellows Treasurer Mari Hintz.
Goodfellows was started in the 1940’s and has not missed a single Christmas in more than 70 years. This year there was a 25% increase in applications so they served with
dignity and kindness 290 families for a total of 1,131 individuals.
“Families are just so happy. We always make sure that there is a gift for each child before we even start.”
As the Goodfellows rely solely on donations for their event, local businesses, churches and individuals have come together with enough donations to make sure Christmas is merry and bright for all those that come through the doors.
“The communities of Marion and Clintonville were outstanding in their collections.” Hintz says with the cost of items in the stores, this will make a difference.
“We are helping families have a brighter Christmas,” she said. “It really is the true meaning of Christmas.”
