SHAWANO, WI- The Shawano County Highway Department is ready for expected winter weather.
“Refresh your winter driving habits.”
Highway Commissioner Grant Bystol said they have been doing the work to get the trucks ready.
“Last weekend we were out for some snow and ice, so there is some salt residue,” Bystol said. “The trucks are prepped and ready, so trucks are loaded and we are ready.”
He said that they did not add any pre-application of brine on the road prior to the weather.
Along with that, he says drivers need to follow guidelines when approaching a snowplow.
Bystol says drivers should give snow plows 200 feet of space when they are in operation. He said the plows in Shawano County have a red and light strobe when they are in operation.
“If you can’t see us, we can’t see you. You have to make sure you can see our mirrors.”
He says it is also wise to drive slow and allow for extra time during winter weather.
