SEYMOUR, WI- Seymour City and Rural Fire Departments were called to a house fire Sunday evening.
Fire engulfed an old home on Peral Street.
Crews say the family was made alert of the fire with smoke detectors and evacuated the home and also saved their pets.
Officials say parts of the home were more than 100 years old. The fire was believed to have started in an enclosed porch. The age of the home made it difficult to put out the fire due to their being many void spaces in the walls. Crews called the efforts labor intensive. It is believed that the fire started from an overheated electrical circuit.
”As a reminder, space heaters can contribute to an electrical overload. When using auxiliary heating units be sure all the components in the electrical circuit are rated to handle the electrical load, and keep combustibles clear around heating units,” reads a statement from the Seymour Rural Fire Department.
No one was hurt during the fire.
