MILWAUKEE, WI- The Brewers are entering the stretch run with a three-game edge in the National League Central Division. After taking Thursday off, Milwaukee returns to action tonight in Boston for an inter-league game against the Red Sox. Veteran right-hander Brandon Woodruff will put his 8-and-3 record and three-point-73 earned run average on the line. The Brewers have won five of their first six games coming out of the All-Star break.
The search for more hitting may lead the Brewers to work out a deal with the Washington Nationals for switch-hitting first baseman Josh Bell. Milwaukee’s offense has been up-and-down this season. The team has averaged seven runs a game while winning five of their first six games after the All-Star break. They play the Red Sox at Boston tonight (Friday). Several sources are reporting they’re talking with the Nationals about the power-hitting Bell. He’s a unique switch-hitter who has power from both sides of the plate, doesn’t strike out much, and is vastly improved on defense. He might not cost a lot because he will be a two-month rental before becoming a free agent.
