SHAWANO, WI- A Marion man is facing charges of sexual assault. 41-year-0ld Cory Barnick was charged back on July 18 with one felony count of third-degree sexual assault. The incident took place on July 7 after a rape was reported at the Shawano Lake County Park. According to the report, a witness told a sheriff deputy that the victim was camping and fell asleep. According to the complaint, Barnick went into the camper, and the witness heard “sexual noises”. The victim reported waking up naked, but did not remember much from the incident. The victim told police she did not give permission to Barnick. According to the witness, the victim allegedly had six or seven alcoholic drinks earlier in the day. The victim said she did have past experiences with Barnick as they were neighbors for over five years. Barnick told investigators that the intercourse was consensual. A $25,000 signature bond was issued.
