
Grace E. Hoffman, age 94 of Tigerton passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay.
The former Grace Evelyn Benning was born on July 18, 1927, in Denham, Minnesota, to Gideon and Hildegard (Zielinski) Benning. As a young child, her family moved to Wisconsin and she grew up in Gilman. Grace was united in marriage on October 1, 1946, to Harold “Cannonball” Hoffman. Grace worked at Marathon Electric in Wausau for several years, as a cook at Tigerton Hospital for five years, and she waitressed and cooked at Ev & Selma’s Café in Tigerton for some time. Then she was employed at Carver Wood Products in Marion for 25 years, until retiring in 1986. Grace and Harold always resided in Tigerton and after 65 years of marriage her husband preceded her in death on February 27, 2012.
Grace was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Tigerton, where she was active in the Altar Guild and helped out with numerous activities. She liked working outside in her flower and vegetable gardens, creating beautiful embroidery pieces, and knitting and sewing all sorts of items. Grace was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching family members play Tigerton Baseball for many years. She watched other sports on television too, especially the Brewers and Packers. Grace always loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Hoffman of Tigerton; two grandchildren, Jamie Hoffman of Tempe, AZ, and Tracy (Richard “Chance”) Spencer of Logan, OH; and two great grandchildren, Taryne and Cy Spencer. There are three sisters, Violet Ogurek of Grants Pass, OR, Ruth Shepherd of Peshtigo, and Margie Peterson of Jump River. She is further survived by four sisters-in-law, Joyce Benning of Illinois, Ruth Benning of Illinois, Diane Benning of Juneau, AK, and Charlotte Jeske of Milwaukee: and many other relatives and friends.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold; a sister, Bernice Leighton; three brothers, Curt, Rudy, and Clarence “Bud” Benning; and four brothers-in-law, Everett Leighton, Ray Ogurek, Wally Shepherd, and John Peterson.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 30th at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Tigerton. Rev. Sharon Fox-Bogen will officiate and inurnment will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting the family.
