SHAWANO COUNTY, WI- With hot days this week, Shawano County Health Department says people should take advantage of cooling locations.
“People can cool off at the courthouse, the Mohican Family Center in Bowler and at all six of the Shawano County Library locations,” said Assistant Health Director Nick Mau. “These places are open during the heat of the day, so by the time they close, the temperature should be down a bit.”
Mau says it is important to have a plan, especially if you live in a residence that does not have air conditioning. “Make sure you have a family member or a friends house to go to and keep an eye out for symptoms of heat exhaustion.”
Symptoms include sweating, excessive thirst, faint feelings, nausea are some of the big ones.
“I would know what you are going to do if it gets to hot and remember to drink more water than you are used to drinking normally.”
Kristi Hauer, Shawano County Library Director says there is plenty to do at their library locations if people need to use it.
“We have air conditioning in all six of our buildings and we have pretty open hours.” Hauer says if they need to use a computer or Chromebook, all are available during open hours. “We have programs off and on and puzzles that people can do or they can join as a patron and check out and ready some materials.”
Hauer says they have locations in Shawano, Bonduel, Mattoon, Birnamwood, Wittenberg and Tigerton.
“We would love for people to use our materials while they are here, but staying cool is the most important on days like this.”
