OCONTO COUNTY, WI- The state is investigating a fatal officer involved shooting that took place Wednesday afternoon near Frog Pond Road. Investigators say a sheriff deputy shot and killed a person who was armed with a knife.
The call came in around 2:40 p.m for a reckless driver on Highway 41. The vehicle was located and the driver exited the vehicle, showing signs of injury. The report indicates that the passenger in the vehicle got out and was armed with a knife. According to the report, the passenger refused to comply with commands. It was reported that the deputy shot the individual, and that person died at the scene. It is not clear how the driver of the vehicle got hurt, but is expected to recover.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
The sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
