NEW LONDON, WI- A firefighter has been injured and two families have been displaced after a duplex fire on Friday. Crews were called out to the 1000 block of Robin Street around 4:07 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews reported seeing heavy smoke from the single-story duplex. Police accounted for all members that resided in the left side of duplex and no residents from, the right side were home at the time.
Officials determined that the first started when a car caught on fire inside of a garage.
A second search was conducted to rescue animals, including a rabbit, guinea pig, hamster and two cats. All of the pets were accounted for and were unharmed.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for observation.
A family of five and a family of two were both displaced, and the Red Cross was brought to assist both families.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
